A dream wedding venue
The recent Wedding Bliss feature in the Surf Coast Times featured a beautiful story about Margi and Lachlan McDonald, who waited several years for 360Q to reopen before they held their spectacular wedding reception. Read the full story here!
Sometimes you simply know when you’ve found the perfect venue for your wedding and, once that happens, nothing else will do.
Swan Bay couple Margi and Lachlan McDonald felt that way about 360Q, the two-storey waterfront restaurant venue at Queenscliff Harbour – and they were willing to postpone their wedding for three years until the restaurant was reopened in 2016 by chef to the stars and business owner, Barry Iddles.
The couple, who live with their young son Jack on a property that has been in the McDonald family for 150 years, decided 360Q was the perfect wedding reception venue after visiting a few years ago when it was under former management.
When it closed they considered other venues, but they had their heart set on 360Q.
“We obviously love the area and the marina, looking at the ocean and the boats so that’s why we chose 360Q,” Margi said. “So we had our name down at the Harbour waiting for it to reopen. We’ve been engaged for several years now and we’ve been waiting for it to reopen and it finally did under the fabulous Barry!”
True to Lachlan’s Scottish roots, the pair got engaged in the Scottish Highlands and was married at Citizen’s Park at Queenscliff after being ushered in by a bagpiper. At 360Q the newlyweds and their 130 guests feasted on steamed duck buns and wasabi calamari canapés; Vietnamese prawn salad and coconut crepe with Asian chicken salad entrees; mains of eye fillet with truffle mash and Japanese-inspired salmon and a selection of five petite grazing desserts.
Margi said the pair’s planning for the big day had paid off – everything went perfectly.
“We obviously researched Barry and Sorrento Catering Company and he had glowing reports,” she said. “The food was delicious and the staff was amazing and very attentive – there was not a bad word said all night. But we forgot to cut our cake which was quite funny!”
Barry said he was delighted the happy couple chose 360Q for their formal sit-down reception.
“Theirs was the first wedding we hosted here at 360Q and I couldn’t be happier for Margi and Lachlan,” he said. “It was such a great vibe – the team and I loved it. I am so excited to be offering our top floor space for special functions. The view over the Queenscliff marina and the Bay is spectacular and makes for such a beautiful and romantic setting.
“We’ve just hosted our second wedding and we’ve had nothing but positive feedback about our food, our staff and, of course, the view!”
360Q offers the option of both seated or cocktail-style receptions and every menu is tailored to suit each couple and their guests. The upstairs space can seat 140 and there’s a balcony area as well as a large dance floor to suit guests enjoying either a band or a DJ.
Guests can also venture up a spiral staircase to an enclosed viewing deck from which they can enjoy magnificent 360-degree views over the marina, the township, Port Phillip Heads and the city of Melbourne in the distance.
“We think this is the perfect spot for photos of the bride and groom and their bridal party,” Barry said. “There is literally no other venue like it on the Bellarine Peninsula.”
As the owner of established firm Sorrento Catering, Barry’s function and event management credentials are impressive. He not only catered for Tina Arena’s family lunch on her wedding day as well as her housewarming party, he created events in New York for two celebrity weddings, catered yachting events for royal families Medemblik in Holland and has cheffed for numerous weddings at Sorrento Sailing Couta Boat Club and at private residences on the Mornington Peninsula and the Bellarine.
“It’s very exciting to be here in Queenscliff offering not only amazing food, top local wines and service from our established and professional team, but also an incredibly unique experience for our guests.”
360Q is located at 2 Wharf St, Queenscliff. Wedding packages start from $95pp. Call 5257 4200, email firstname.lastname@example.org or visit www.360q.com.au for further information.
