“Every wedding is wedding of the year,” says Barry lddles, acclaimed chef and owner of 3600. As Oueenscliff’s most vibrant restaurant and event space, a wedding here is truly unique in every season.

Situated right on Oueenscliff Harbour, the light­ filled building, flanked by sheltered terraces and the bobbing marina, is a contemporary jewel on the historic peninsula.

We’re chatting in the observation tower, a viewing deck accessed from the venue’s reception room. With 360° views from 40 metres above the harbour, weddings here soar to new heights.

Following nuptials, couples can use the tower space for photos or even host a small reception for a sit-down dinner for 24 guests or finger-food for 60. On the second level, the venue’s reception room seats 180 diners or caters to 200 for a cocktail party. Here, dramatic views of Port Phillip Bay span every window.

A central bar ensures efficient drinks service and doubles as a clever noise buffer from the lively dance floor, promising guests’ endless conversation as they dine on 3600’s renowned flawless cuisine. With a career spanning four decades, Barry has satisfied

the most famous of appetites. Michael Jackson, Harry Connick Jnr, Kylie Minogue and more. At 3600, every couple gets the same star-treatment. Barry and his long-standing staff tailor each event and assume perfection from the word go.

“All my staff should think like a customer because people are here to relax,” Barry says. “I’m pedantic about food and service . We ask couples what their favourite flavours and cuisines are and develop a menu around their tastes.”

This could mean funky Lebanese fatayers, steamed duck with lemongrass buns or Indonesian dengdeng balado slow-cooked beef ribs. Orders are taken at the table and meats are cooked as individuals desire. Exquisite dessert choices are offered on grazing platters.

“There’s no excuse to serve sub-standard food at a wedding,” says Barry. “The focus is on impact and individuality. It’s got to be quirky, it’s got to be different, it’s got to be fun. Food makes the event.” As does a spectacular ocean sunset viewed from every corner of this venue and especially brilliant from the tower.

“Weddings are all about wow factor,” adds Barry.
