A surprise wedding proposal at 360Q!
Romance is all around at Queenscliff restaurant 360Q with two wedding proposals taking place here in one week – and one couple travelled all the way from New Zealand!
Auckland local Robbie Evans planned a long weekend to Melbourne with fiance Sarah White with a secret mission to pop the question.
Robbie is an old travelling buddy of 360Q owner Barry Iddles and, when Robbie said he wanted to propose somewhere in Queenscliff, Barry suggested the tower with its magnificent 360-degree views across the marina, the Rip and the township.
“I had noticed how pretty 360Q looked in photos on social media and asked Barry to help me out,” he said. “I was planning on asking her on the beach at Queenscliff but Barry said ‘why don’t you use our tower’? I kept Barry up to date secretly on the day and he made sure we had the space to ourselves so I could ask Sarah to marry me.”
Sarah said Robbie’s proposal came as a complete surprise.
“As soon as we got up to the top of the tower he dropped the knee and asked me,” she said. “I didn’t expect it at all. Robbie had jokingly said I would have to wait eight years so when it all happened I was like ‘are you serious?’ He went to a lot of effort – he even asked my dad a few days before.”
For the record, Sarah said “Yes, definitely!”
360Q’s front of house manager Dave Mash delivered champagne to the beaming couple and they had lunch at the restaurant before calling friends and family with the news.
“Robbie and I met years ago travelling through Southeast Asia and we’ve been in touch ever since,” said Barry. “I knew the tower would be the perfect spot – we have had several brides and grooms who have held their reception in our function space use the tower for their wedding photos. It’s a top location, literally.
“It was actually our second proposal that week – there’s obviously something about 360Q that makes people feel romantic!”
Robbie and Sarah, who have been together for just over 18 months, have not set a date or wedding venue – even though Barry showed off 360Q’s upstairs functions venue. “Barry gave us the whole tour and it would be a wonderful wedding venue but we live in Auckland and most of our friends and family are in New Zealand,” said Robbie. “We have no immediate plans – we’ll just enjoy being engaged for a while.”
360Q regularly hosts engagement and birthday parties and weddings and Barry says summer bookings are filling fast.
“It’s one of the most picturesque local venues – we don’t like to brag but we often say our first floor is the jewel in the crown on the Bellarine Peninsula when it comes to wedding reception venues.”
The 360Q team offers formal sit-down or cocktail style wedding receptions with full catering starting from $95pp. Check out our wedding page here. Call 5257 4200 or email firstname.lastname@example.org to enquire.
